Creative Practice Blog #11

This week I explored a different nature scene to paint, I have previously only done some flowers and sunset pieces. I have continued trying to improve my watercolor painting skills. Now that I am feeling more comfortable with my creative abilities, I have stopped sketching out my drawings before I started painting. Before, when I was coloring my first paintings, I sketched out exactly what I was going to draw before adding color out of fear of messing up the whole piece. Now, I just start painting and let my creative brain take over, I have found that this has allowed me to get more into the creative flow process. As I have described before, I chose my theme of growth and decided to portray it in a literal sense and philosophical sense. I have been exploring the literal sense of growth through painting different nature scenes, but I have also been exploring my own growth through this process.
For the past few weeks, I have really been enjoying sitting down to paint or draw. Though the past few weeks, I have been hitting a sort of roadblock in my creative process. I have been feeling very anxious and stressed out with school that I have not given myself much time to think about myself and how I was feeling. When I finally took a break and decided to try to brainstorm what I was going to paint, it completely stressed me out which was something I had not experienced since the first few weeks of my creative process. I decided to take a few deep breaths and just started painting. Once I was finally able to clear my head and get into the flow of painting, I was able to relax again and feel the benefits of the practice. I have talked about how this has turned into a very good activity that improves my mental health.
